Does anyone have any suggestions for some good Kirtan CD's ? Really the only one I listen to is my Krishna Das which is wonderful of course but I think it's time to expand my horizons. Again any information here is much appreciated.

Lately I've really been enjoying Shantala's "The Love Window." I just attended a kirtan with Heather and Benjy Wertheimer. They are devoted, inspired, world-class musicians. It's pure joy!

    Other favorites include:
    Bhakti's The Beloved-Yoga of Devotion
    Wah's CD Krishna
Jaya Bhagavan by Tina Malia and Shimshai

Just remembered to tell you about www.sacredsoundsradio.com, which is amgreat way to hear a variety of chant artists and also read about them as many are profiled. Also, check out Girish's cds Reveal and Shiva Machine. I am partial to Reveal, it is soooo beautiful, they are both fantastic.

I really prefer actual saints, that is, divine souls, singing the bhajans. mostly the Western people don't cut it for me; they don't have enough shakti.

Ganapathi Satchitananda is unbelievably great -- I got a cd of his Ganesh songs and they're completely contagious -- you can't stop singing, dancing, drumming, grinning with them.

also Vishwananda -- the young new saint who resembles Yogananda in many ways -- his CD called "Love Beyond Words" is AMAZING. he has all the California bhajantris with him, including Girish and Geoffrey Gordon -- only they're the CHORUS.

seems a little racist. often times one will equate " this person must be saintly because he/she is Indian"

One of my friends was looking at a Buddhist magazine was looking at profiles of different monks. When a saw a picture of a white American buddhist monk amongst the Asians he thought "Who is this Guy??!!" Then later on he thought to himself how materialistic I am to judge ones spiritual advancement according to ones body.

Advancement it like music. If one does not have a musical ear he will not be able to tell the difference between a mediocre musician and a musical prodigy. Similarly if we ourselves are not spiritual advanced then we are not qualified to understand who is very saintly and who is not so saintly.

There are some simple qualifications one can look for however. If one is spiritual advanced it means that there are in no need of slaving around trying to get material pleasure. Their bhajan alone is enough to satisfy them therefore such saints do not chase after the pleasures of this temporary world. They are satisfied with the eternal pleasure coming from the spiritual dimension.

Ones material fever diminishes if ones spiritual fever (advancement ) increases, therefore those who a feverish for material pleasures, Go Dasa, slaves to their sences are not advanced. Whereas those who are Goswamis, master of their sences, are advanced.

not at all racist. that's a complete misunderstanding. I meant -- I prefer enlightened souls singing rather than American pop guys who enjoy bhajans. if those American folks are enlightened, I'm so happy!!!!!!!!! (Krishna Das, and Jai Uttal, for example, have energy closer to what I'm referencing.)

it's -- for me -- about the shakti, about the divine energy, that's pouring off of the singers I mentioned. when they sing about Krishna, about the Mother, about Ganesh, a listener FEELS those beings, their presence is palpable, in a way that is more developed and more direct, for the most part, in comparison to singers who aren't personally and spiritually and directly conversant with those energies/entities.

          it's just my personal preference.

you mention spiritual people being less materially-driven -- my point: you can HEAR this in their voices and in their way of singing bhajans.

anything by gauravani (as kindred spirits) is amazing, although "white" (sarcasm intended ;)having been raised a saintly person he has more shakti than most i have heard or met. his sanskrit pronunciation is probably better than many indian so called "saints".

bhajana is about bhakti and ones bhakti doesnt have to do with ones geographical birthplace.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Russil Paul. He's a gifted musician and beautiful singer. His stuff isn't really Kirtan, but very chantable.
He also wrote the enlightening book, The Yoga of Sound, which you should all rush out and read as soon as possible.
    :)
